Little Author
We sat in a booth at Whole Foods, and my 9-year-old dictated the newest chapters in her fiction book to me as I typed feverishly, just trying to keep up with all her ideas.
Whenever I do this with her, I get a physical swell of joy in my chest. It just makes me happy. I get swept up in her story and characters, just like when my older daughter dictated her book to me when she was around this age.
“I love doing this with you,” I told her.
And I truly do. It’s a lot of work, and I definitely don’t always have the energy to type out pages and pages after I’ve done my own work for the day. But this is worthy work too.
I truly believe that time spent helping our children along in their passions won’t EVER be wasted, no matter what comes from it. Does it matter if this book is never published? (Although I think it could be!) Does it matter if her passions change a year from now? Nope. Because in this present moment, this is important. And if we carve out time to pursue these interests with our children when they’re young, they’ll grow into adults who know how to pursue creativity and to use the gifts God has given them.
So, we now have 3 authors in the house with a lot to say. 🤗
Watch out, world! 📣
