August Update
So this isn’t a bad morning “commute” ~ 25 steps to the barn to record some early morning podcast interviews. Lots of fun stuff in the works to share with you!
After a little break in July, the month of August is FULL of interviews! I did 2 podcast interviews yesterday with two more coming up, and a big Zoom interview later this month for a TV show in Canada. I honestly felt so full to the brim yesterday when the interviews were over - yes, tired too, but in a good way.
Getting to have meaningful conversations with other women about the The Kindred Life book, courage, growth, intentional learning, and other things I’m truly passionate about is such a gift in this whole book release process.
And one of the things I love about the podcast world is that is seems less polished to me. Unless you’re NPR or something, podcasts tend to have lower production and a more casual feel. Every host I talk to is just trying to make it happen - some in the midst of their daily life at home with kids napping or at early hours before their people are awake. No polished makeup or perfect Zoom wall required. I love that.
Meanwhile, the farm is bursting with tomatoes, zinnias, and sunflowers…
I’ve now pulled up all the tired early spring crops: kale, beans, zucchini, some of the calendula, and even the cucumbers were done. We’ve had a crazy dry and extra hot summer here in middle Tennessee, and just in the last two weeks have we gotten any significant rain. Even the okra, which lurrrves being hot, isn’t producing as much as previous years. But sunflowers! You can always count on them for a burst of color and joy in August. Just look at these:
These are the Lemonade branching sunflowers from Johnny’s Seeds, and I adore them. I only grow branching varieties, because they keep producing over and over, and they grow better the more you cut them. These Lemonade sunflowers are perfect for bouquets, because they don’t shed pollen on your table, but they do have nectar which is still great for the bees. I have plenty of other pollen sources all over the farm, so I think this is fine.
And finally - we’re collecting all our school books and gearing up for another year at River Lake Sunshine School - my girls will be in 3rd and 7th grade. 😳 I’ll write a separate post on everything we’re planning for this school year.
