My Word of the Year For 2021
“fru·i·tion
1. the point at which a plan or project is realized.
2. the state or action of producing fruit.”
Sometimes it takes 7 months to choose a word of the year, and sometimes it jumps out so quickly and clearly. 2020 was about RECLAMATION, and now that I’ve meditated on it and practiced it for months, I’m taking it with me.
I don’t think a “word of year” is meant to be left behind at the end of that year but instead woven into our stories as we move forward with courage, a little bit stronger, eyes open, more fully awake.
WHY FRUITION
A plan and project will literally be realized when I turn in a writing project I’ve been working on for a year. I’m grateful I’ve been given this opportunity to share my journey and some really important lessons learned along the way. And I’m not going to waste it - I will see it to fruition.
Fruit will be produced because I believe that, no matter what happens, when we faithfully and intentionally use the gifts God has given us. Walking closely by His side - we WILL changed for the better. It might not be the kind of fruit that is publicly lauded, but it’s the kind that matters - stronger faith, deeper joy, the ability to love ourselves and others better.
FRUITION because for much of my life, I’ve fallen just short of my full potential. Why? Because of FEAR. Because of UNBELIEF that my voice matters as much as everyone else’s.
Now I’m going for the opportunities God has put before me and seeing it through to the fullest, wherever that leads!
When I was creating the above image from a photo I took last summer, I zoomed in and noticed the huge bumble bee gathering nectar in our wildflower field from one of the pink cosmos in the bottom right! 🐝🌸 So many lessons to learn from this…
In the sustainable farming world, we know that bees and other pollinators are essential to any vegetables fruiting, because they fruit through their flowers. The weather, environment and so many other factors come into play.
Also, we must do our part to prep the soil, sow the seeds, mow the edges to keep the weeds out, and cultivate a community of supporters to come enjoy and pick the flowers, and take home the vegetables we grow.
There are so many players in the grand scheme of what comes to fruition in our lives - we cannot do it alone.
FRUITION doesn’t just happen - there’s action. There’s work to do. It’ll be hard, and it’ll take sacrifice, but I know it’ll be worth it.
