Comforting Scriptures During COVID-19 (and Anytime)

Here are some Scriptures that have comforted me in some deep trials, many an anxiety-filled night when I couldn’t sleep, worrying about my health or future. Worry has NO PLACE in my life or my home. It has no place in your life or home, either.

These Scriptures seem more relevant than ever during all the trials caused by COVID-19, when literally the entire world is reeling. I’m doing my best not to give in to worry, to stay in a place of calm and just take one day at a time, knowing that truly, I rest completely secure in His hands. He is our Shepherd - we have nothing to fear.

“Keep me safe, O God, for in You I take refuge.

I said to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord, apart from you I have no good thing.’

As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in who is all my delight…

Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup, you have made my lot secure,

The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;

Surely I have a delightful inheritance.

I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.

I have set the Lord always before me,

Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;

my body also will rest secure; because you will not abandon me to the grave,

nor will you let your Holy One see decay.

You have made known to me the path of life, you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

(from Psalm 16)

“He will call upon me, and I will answer him,

I will be with him in trouble,

I will deliver him and honor him.

With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.” (Psalm 91:14-16)

“Do not fear, for I am with you;

do not anxiously look about you,

for I am your God.

I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,

surely I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

And for while we’re in our homes much more than usual, may we fill it with GOOD things…

“Whatever is true, whatever is honorable,

whatever is right, whatever is pure,

whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute,

if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise,

dwell on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

“The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish tears it down with both her hands.” (Proverbs 14:1

Listen to Psalm 23 from the Jesus Storybook Bible. Sometimes I read the Jesus Storybook Bible myself - it’s so comforting and pares everything down to the simplest truth - God pursuing us in love.

Be comforted, friends! We will get through this time, and there will be beauty and goodness on the other side of this. In the meantime, we fight with every authority we have in Christ, against darkness, depression, anxiety and worry. And we will claim peace in the midst of it, too.
